Robb’s debut single “Lead Me On”, written by Robb, Ryan Beaver, Aaron Eshuis, and Matt McGinn was released just a few short weeks ago on August 24th. Not only does the track have some remarkable songwriters, but it’s got some top-notch producers to add to the list as well including McAnally and McGinn, along with Ben Fowler.
Highly regarded as one of Music City’s best tracking engineers, Ben is also a Grammy Award-winning mixer, with credits including Rascal Flatts, Sara Evans, and Michael McDonald. I would bring my mixes to Ben early on so he could critique them. Among the many things I learned from Ben is this important lesson (in his words): “Mixing is the last performance of a song. If it doesn’t sound great, you’ll be the one to blame. Do whatever it takes to make it sound like a record.”

Fowler most recently has made albums with Jerrod Niemann, Sarah Evans, Lucy Hale, Kip Moore, Rascal Flatts, and Ruby Amanfu to name a few. In the past, he's worked with Eric Clapton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and George Harrison, among others. "I'm incredibly excited about working with New Reveille," says Ben Fowler. "They have a depth to their sound vocally and instrumentally that is uniquely their own, and I look forward to getting in the studio with them."

“Good mixing is an art form. There is certainly a technical side as well, but once you start considering how a mix should represent a particular song it becomes totally creative. You can make or break a song with a good or bad mix. I think production and mixing are very separate tasks. Some people are great producers, but don’t have any interest or desire to learn the technical aspects of mixing. On the other hand there are engineers who also have great production chops. It really comes down to the individual, and how they choose to work.”
Studio C recently hosted surround mixing with Fowler, remixing a Lynyrd Skynyrd live DVD and a performance for PBS’ SoundStage. Room updates over the past year include a new Digidesign ICON, a JBL LSR4328P surround system and a host of other gear. “I wanted to have a room that’s fully digital, where we could do surround and post-production,” McMakin says. “But the C room still has great vintage stuff. There’s a Fairchild, over a dozen varieties of mic pre’s and all the major compressors, which provides us with a third price point without sacrificing the quality Ocean Way is known for.”
